The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German Jordanian University, Eng. Othman Budair, sponsored the Opening Ceremony of the activities of the German Week organized by the University as part of its strategic vision to enhance the German dimension in it.
During the opening ceremony, Engineer Othman Budair indicated that the German Week is a celebration of the strong cultural and academic relations between Jordan and Germany, which is reflected in the success story of the German Jordanian University. He also stressed the fact that the GJU is distinguished by its students and the diversity of their cultures, experiences and aspirations, pointing out the role of the University and its commitment to achieving academic excellence, providing holistic education for students and preparing them for success in their academic and career paths in life.
For his part, the President of the University, Dr. Alaaldeen Al-Halhouli, indicated that the activities of the German Week embody the importance of the outputs of education and cultural activities in building bridges of cooperation between the two friendly countries, as the German Jordanian University is a bright success story for these relations and a cultural bridge linking Jordan with Europe, and with Germany in particular.
Dr. Al-Halhouli added that education is not the only thing that students receive in classrooms and laboratories, but there is also the experience that is gained through networking between students of different nationalities and the social interaction among them through various activities that enrich dialogue and deepen the respect for other different opinions.
On the other hand, the Vice President of the University of Wützburg, Dr. Achim Förster, presented examples of successful international projects between the University of Würzburg and the German Jordanian University, such as Social Work Programs and Hydrogen Technology, while the representative of the German Agency for Cultural Exchange in the University Board of Trustees, Mr. Stefan Benfeld, gave a keynote lecture entitled The Impact of Globalization on Higher Education.
At the end of the Ceremony, the attendees visited the exhibition of German organizations working in Jordan and the exhibitions of the university Schools and the German Department and Center therein, in addition to the photo exhibition of Badia Treasures of Natural and Cultural Heritage, which was organized by the Center for Natural and Cultural Heritage at the University in cooperation with the photographer, Ms Ghazwah Al-Awn. This exhibition aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving natural and cultural heritage for the Jordanian Bedouins.
