About SAMS

The School of Applied Medical Sciences was established in September 2005. Two programs, then, constituted the core of the school; namely, Pharmaceutical-Chemical Engineering (PCE) and Biomedical Engineering (BME).

Biomedical Engineering Program was created in response to continual changes and the emergence of new areas of expertise commensurate with rapid advances in technology. Some of the well-established specialties within the field of biomedical engineering include bio instrumentation; biomaterials; biomechanics; cellular, tissue, and genetic engineering; clinical engineering, medical imaging; orthopedic surgery; rehabilitation engineering; and systems physiology.

The Pharmaceutical-Chemical Engineering Program offers a unique integration between chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and engineering domains. Students will be exposed to basic, cutting-edge, and training courses across these disciplines. Prospective engineers in this field of expertise will be able to transform raw materials into useful pharmaceutical and fine chemical products having commercial interest through the systematic use of engineering concepts and methods.

The school built strong partnership networks with the industry in Jordan, Germany, and elsewhere. This is to expand on the long experience of the German model of applied science and contribute to building a premier quality industry-oriented ICT education in Jordan. Accordingly, all students get the chance to train for about 20 weeks full-time in the German industry during the German Year. Moreover, based on a comprehensive cooperative educational Dual Study track, some of the PCE students have the chance to train full-time in the local industry during the first three summer semesters of their study program.

School's Vision

Inspiring excellence and innovation in applied medical sciences education and research.

School's Mission

Providing interdisciplinary applied education and research in biomedical and pharmaceutical-chemical engineering to drive entrepreneurship and sustainable solutions through industrial engagement with local, German, and global partnerships.
