The Ministry of Transport and the German Jordanian University (GJU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to strengthen cooperation in road safety, scientific research, training, and awareness, as well as to develop the transport and logistics sector. The agreement aims to improve road safety and utilize academic and technical expertise in advancing the sector. The MoU was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Minister of Transport and Minister of Labour Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin, and on behalf of the university by its President, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, in the presence of the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Fares Abu Diyeh.

The MoU aims to enhance the exchange of expertise and utilize scientific research to develop practical solutions to the challenges facing the transport sector and road safety. It also provides for specialized training courses for staff of the Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, a review of the Executive Plan of the Transport and Environment Safety Directorate, and the consideration of technical consultancy services in transport and logistics.

The agreement also seeks to support sectoral development and transformation projects, while exploring the possibility of establishing a National Advisory Council for Logistics and Transport.

Al-Qatamin emphasized the importance of expanding partnerships with universities and specialized scientific institutions and benefiting from scientific research and technical expertise to develop the transport system and enhance road safety. He noted that investment in knowledge, training, and capacity building is a fundamental pillar for improving performance and developing services in the sector.

He added that the Ministry seeks to strengthen integration between government and academic institutions in support of policies and initiatives based on scientific studies and data, contributing to sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the transport sector.

For his part, Al-Halhouli highlighted the importance of the partnership between the university and the Ministry in linking scientific research with the sector’s practical needs. He noted that GJU’s Center of Excellence for Traffic Safety possesses academic and technical expertise that can be utilized to support national efforts to reduce road accidents and improve safety levels.

He added that the cooperation offers opportunities to develop training, research, and awareness programs, exchange expertise, and promote scientific and practical solutions in the fields of transport and logistics.
