As part of the Building Sustainable Futures: Strategic Partnership between Trier University of Applied Sciences (HS Trier) and the German Jordanian University (GJU), a Master’s SDG Workshop was held in June 2026 at HS Trier. The workshop brought together academic staff and Master’s students from both partner institutions to strengthen collaboration in sustainable architecture education and the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into higher education.

The workshop focused on developing academic content and incorporating sustainability principles and the SDGs into the curriculum of the Department of Architecture at the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE), German Jordanian University, while exploring innovative teaching approaches to equip future architects with the knowledge and skills needed to address environmental, social, and urban challenges.

The workshop was led by Prof. Dr. Matthias Sieveke, Dean of the Campus of Art & Design at HS Trier, together with Dr.-Ing. Farah Al-Atrash, Principal Investigator (PI) of the project. The workshop activities were coordinated by Dr.-Ing. Farah Al-Atrash, Project Director, and Architect Rawan Khattab, Project Coordinator and Researcher. The workshop was attended by colleagues from SABE, including Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid, Architect Mohammad Khaled, and Architect Leen Fakhoury, in addition to Master’s students Qusai Al-Sarhan and Kenana Al-Dwairi from the Sustainable Buildings Master's Program.

A key component of the workshop was the presentation of ongoing research by Master’s students from GJU and HS Trier, including a joint thermal comfort research project comparing indoor environmental quality and occupant comfort in educational buildings. The presentations supported academic exchange, constructive discussions, and scientific collaboration.

The workshop reinforced the strategic partnership between GJU and HS Trier through joint curriculum development, collaborative research, and academic knowledge exchange, highlighting both institutions’ commitment to advancing sustainability in architectural education and preparing graduates to contribute to more resilient and sustainable built environments.
