In a remarkable achievement showcasing Jordan’s leadership in innovation and sustainability, the German Jordanian University (GJU) has been awarded the Special Recognition Award at the 5th cycle of the Emirates Energy Award (EEA) for its pioneering project, the Energy Innovation Platform (EIP), implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR).

The award was presented in Dubai during the World Green Economy Summit, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The award was received on behalf of the university by Prof. Aiman Albatayneh, founder and coordinator of the platform, alongside Eng. Bushra Al-Abbadi, Director of the Planning and International Cooperation Directorate at the Ministry.

This recognition stands as a testament to GJU's leadership in applied research and hands-on education, addressing real-world energy challenges across industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. The platform introduces innovative solutions that enhance energy efficiency and conservation while fostering a collaborative learning environment between students and industry under academic supervision.

Prof. Albatayneh emphasized that this achievement is the result of a successful trilateral collaboration between the university, the ministry, and the energy-consuming sectors, highlighting Jordan’s and its universities’ capacity to lead the transition toward a sustainable economy and a low-carbon society.

The Emirates Energy Award is one of the most prestigious regional and international recognitions in the field of sustainable energy. Its fifth cycle attracted over 240 submissions from 24 countries. The EIP project’s recognition alongside global institutions such as Emirates Airlines, Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority, and Saudi Electricity Company reflects the significance of this milestone for Jordan, GJU, and the project team.
