Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, President of German Jordanian University (GJU), met with internationally recognized Tunisian expert Dr. Wafa Kammoun on the sidelines of the Summer School on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, currently being hosted by the university in collaboration with Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie.
During the meeting, both parties discussed prospects for academic and research collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence and its applications in the healthcare sector. They also explored opportunities for exchanging expertise in scientific research, training, and capacity building, contributing to the strengthening of international partnerships and the development of joint research projects with regional impact.
The discussions were attended by Prof. Kamel Jebreen, Coordinator of the Summer School from Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie; Prof. Anas Attieh, and from GJU, Dr. Ziad Abu Al-Rub, Dean of the School of Applied Medical Sciences (SAMS), and Dr. Mayada Daibes, Dean of the Nursing School.
The participants reviewed leading experiences in leveraging modern technologies and innovation to address health and development challenges. They also emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation among academic and research institutions at both regional and international levels to advance scientific research and support the use of artificial intelligence in developing innovative solutions for the healthcare sector.
Dr. Wafa Kamoun serves as an Assistant Prof. and Principal Researcher at the Medical Research Directorate of the Tunisian Ministry of Health. She also heads the Regional Training Center affiliated with the WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (WHO-TDR-EMR).
