Amman- 26 January 2022

To foster sustainable partnerships with the industry, a delegation of the German Jordanian University (GJU) met with the management of Petra Engineering on January, 13 2022.

The visit aimed at enhancing the long-standing collaboration with Petra Engineering Industries, a market leader in the design and manufacture of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment, and to define and strengthen areas of collaboration.

The delegation was welcomed and briefed by Eng. Omar Al-Wishah, Deputy Director General of Petra Engineering and Eng. Omar Ali, Director of Operations about the company’s profile and its early engagement in GJU’s establishment.

Dr. Nidal Alshwawreh, the Dean of GJU’s recently established Deanship of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (DI-TECH), emphasized on the importance of innovation in universities and teaching formats which focus on applied education and projects related to the actual industry needs. Therefore GJU seeks to build strategic partnerships with its industrial partners to define common projects where students and professors will work on actual challenges defined by the company, include industrial experts in the development of GJU’s study programs and teaching and give professors the opportunity to engage in the field.

In a dedicated session Ms. Simone Strasburger, Dual Studies Advisor at GJU, presented the concept of Dual Studies at GJU. This cooperative educational format combines academic and practical training which are integrated and take place at two locations: a university and a company. By linking academic parts with a real work environment, the participating Dual Studies student gain an enhanced learning experience and better understanding of theoretical concepts whereas the company will benefit from a graduate who is ready for the work environment.

Petra Engineering expressed its interest in joining Dual Studies as company partner and also in collaborating in innovative projects as well as providing jobs and internship opportunities for GJU students.

The visit was also attended by Dr. Ala’ Khalifeh, Vice-Dean of DI-TECH, Dr. Ahmad Al-Muhtady from the School of Applied Technical Sciences, as well as Britta Kaehler, Dean’s Assistant and Eng. Mohammed Rashdan, Technology Support Coordinator at DI-TECH.
