Saad Shmail, a student from the Department of Design and Visual Communication within the School of Architecture and Built Environment Engineering at the German Jordanian University, attained the first position across the Arab world in the esteemed Pan Arab Award competition. Shmail's winning project, "Debs and Tahini," focuses on packaging for food safety, a category of paramount importance.
Under the guidance of engineer Rawan Majzoub, the project amalgamates various producers into a single packaging solution, aimed at mitigating food wastage. Drawing inspiration from Jordanian culture, the design incorporates warm hues and Arabic typography, notably featuring Andalusian calligraphy alongside indigenous patterns. The envisioned packaging unit is intended for individual sale.
Majzoub expressed her elation at this significant milestone, marking the university's success for the fourth consecutive year in the prestigious competition. This achievement underscores the university's steadfast dedication to furnishing students with a comprehensive educational experience, bridging theoretical insights with practical applications. By actively involving students in real-world projects and encouraging participation in local, regional, and international competitions, the institution cultivates a profound understanding of the professional landscape among its student body.
The Pan Arab Award, a hallmark event in the Arab world, attracts participants from across the region, focusing on sustainable packaging design. In its seventh iteration, the competition drew 602 students from multiple Arab nations, spanning diverse disciplines including packaging graphic design, structural design, and food preservation.
