The German Jordanian University (GJU) participated in the ALECSO Forum for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons on the Role of Technology in the Education of Persons with Visual Impairments in the Arab World, organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) in cooperation with the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and supported by the Jordanian Ministry of Education. The forum was held in Amman from July 13–15, 2026.
Representing GJU at the forum, Dr. Nasim Alnu'man from the School of Applied Medical Sciences delivered a presentation highlighting the University's efforts to prepare school and university students with visual impairments to study alongside their sighted peers. He showcased GJU's initiatives and support services designed to empower students with visual impairments and facilitate their successful integration into the University's academic environment.
Dr. Alnu'man outlined the University's key initiatives in this area, including the provision of assistive technologies and visual aids, as well as specialized assessment services that help identify students' individual needs and ensure they receive appropriate academic support. These efforts contribute to enhancing students' academic success, promoting independence, and advancing the principles of inclusive education.
In his remarks, Dr. Rami Iskandar, Director of the Education Department and ALECSO representative, emphasized the importance of strengthening inclusive education. He commended Jordan and the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science for their efforts in this field, highlighting the transformative role of technology, assistive technologies, and artificial intelligence in empowering persons with visual impairments and expanding their access to education.
The forum was organized as part of ALECSO's ongoing efforts to promote inclusive education, encourage the exchange of expertise among Arab countries, and leverage technological advancements, artificial intelligence, and assistive technologies to improve access to high-quality, inclusive education for persons with visual impairments while fostering learning environments that better respond to their needs.
The event brought together a distinguished group of experts and specialists from across the Arab world, both in person and virtually. Its sessions showcased successful experiences and initiatives in applying technology to support the education of persons with visual impairments, including GJU's model of academic inclusion alongside other regional experiences. The forum also served as a platform for discussing ways to strengthen Arab cooperation and further advance inclusive education.
Participants stressed the importance of enhancing regional collaboration and exchanging expertise in the field of inclusive education, while promoting the use of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to expand learning opportunities and ensure equitable access to education for persons with visual impairments.
GJU's participation in the forum reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting inclusive education and fostering an inclusive university environment that provides students with visual impairments equal opportunities to learn, thrive, and achieve academic success.
