The Economic and Social Council held its sixth regular meeting at the German Jordanian University, which included an open dialogue with economic and social stakeholders from Madaba Governorate to discuss key development challenges.

The meeting comes as part of a series of sessions organized by the Council to assess the developmental landscape and propose practical, applicable solutions that support economic and social policies and promote sustainability at the local level.

The President of the Council, Dr. Musa Shteiwi, stated that this meeting is part of the Council’s approach to holding its sessions across the governorates and listening to economic, social, and official stakeholders to form a clearer picture of the economic and social reality and current challenges in Madaba.

He added that a study on the economic and social situation of Madaba Governorate will be prepared in cooperation with the German Jordanian University, and its findings will be presented to officials and the local community.

He explained that the meeting with local stakeholders was productive, as various ideas, opportunities, and challenges were discussed, with a focus on the governorate’s comparative advantage in the tourism and agriculture sectors—areas that will be addressed in the upcoming study.

He noted that the second part of the event included holding the Council’s sixth meeting, during which its business was carried out according to the set agenda.

For his part, Madaba Governor Hassan Al-Jbour praised the Council’s efforts in holding its session in the governorate and listening to economic and social stakeholders to address development challenges and work toward improving Madaba's developmental situation.

He also highlighted the promising sectors in the governorate, especially tourism and agriculture, noting the challenges they face due to the dry season.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of the University, Prof. Iyas Khader, gave a presentation about the university, which focuses on applied and innovative education and preparing students for the labor market. He expressed the university’s readiness to conduct a joint study with the Council on the economic and social reality in Madaba.
