Amman, August 15, 2024 - The Economic and Social Council and the German Jordanian University signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions in the areas of scientific research, training, and public policy development.
The MoU, signed by University President Dr. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli and Economic and Social Council President Dr. Musa Shteiwi, aims to provide opportunities for university students to intern at the Economic and Social Council through its existing training programs. It also seeks to foster collaboration in organizing discussion sessions, events, and scientific and cultural activities. Additionally, the MoU explores the possibility of cooperation and knowledge exchange with the university’s Dean of Innovation, Technology Transfer, and Entrepreneurship to promote a culture of innovation, support startups, and advance technology transfer. The collaboration will also focus on developing entrepreneurial and innovative ideas, building capacity, and training in technical, professional, and academic fields. Furthermore, the MoU discusses the potential exchange of experts in economic, social, environmental, and developmental fields and the preparation of specialized studies.
Dr. Al-Halhouli emphasized that signing the MoU with the Economic and Social Council represents a significant step towards enhancing cooperation between the university and national institutions. He noted that this agreement will open new opportunities for students to benefit from the council’s training programs and exchange expertise in innovation and technology transfer. Dr. Al-Halhouli also highlighted the importance of collaboration in developing entrepreneurial and innovative ideas, which will strengthen the university’s role as a hub for academic and professional excellence.
He further stated that the German Jordanian University is committed to providing quality education that combines theory with practice, aiming to graduate qualified professionals who meet the needs of the local and regional job markets. Dr. Al-Halhouli added that the university places a strong emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship as a core part of its vision, which enhances its role in driving sustainable development in Jordan.
Dr. Shteiwi, in his remarks, underscored the importance of this collaboration, stating, "The signing of this MoU reflects the Economic and Social Council’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with national academic institutions and utilizing scientific knowledge to serve the community and develop public policies."
Dr. Shteiwi also outlined the council’s policy, which aims to encourage positive dialogue and build consensus among community stakeholders on key economic issues, policies, and decisions. He explained that the council works to enhance social dialogue on matters of concern to Jordanian citizens, assess the economic and social impacts of public policies, and provide alternative proposals to achieve sustainable development, thereby promoting participation in policymaking and decision-making across various fields.
This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the Economic and Social Council to strengthen strategic partnerships with academic institutions in Jordan, contributing to the achievement of shared national goals, promoting sustainable development in the Kingdom, and realizing a forward-looking national vision that effectively serves the interests of Jordanian society.
