Established in 2005 by Royal Decree, the German Jordanian University (GJU) was founded through a memorandum of understanding between Jordan and Germany to foster a robust partnership aimed at providing applied education that meets contemporary needs. The university is dedicated to offering innovative educational programs that align with both local and international market demands while enhancing students' capabilities and skills.
Education is a fundamental right, and GJU strives to deliver high-quality education to as many individuals as possible within the Arab world. The university continually evolves its academic programs to match future career requirements and market needs, aiming to achieve excellence and offer distinguished job opportunities. GJU prepares its students and staff to excel in their fields, thereby positively impacting their environments and contributing to the growth of the institutions and companies they join. According to a 2023 study, 23% of GJU graduates are employed in Germany, underscoring the quality of education and career opportunities provided.
A significant aspect of GJU’s vision involves local and international partnerships with over 120 German universities and more than 5,000 local and international companies, where students undergo training. Notably, GJU is the only university worldwide where 100% of its students complete a semester abroad. This distinctive model of applied education earned the university the Royal Order of Independence of the First Degree from His Majesty King Abdullah II for its role in enhancing the quality of applied education and promoting scientific exchange between Jordan and Germany.
This accolade has fueled GJU’s continued pursuit of excellence, leading to its achievement of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2018 certifications. GJU is the first public university to obtain the ISO 21001:2018 certificate, recognizing its outstanding educational management systems.
In its quest for ongoing development, GJU is expanding partnerships and projects, integrating entrepreneurship and innovation into its institutional culture. The university has introduced new and innovative specializations in collaboration with local and international partners to address market needs and keep pace with scientific advancements. These include a PhD in German as a Foreign Language with the University of Freiburg, a joint Master’s program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Management with the University of Magdeburg-Stendal, and bachelor’s programs in Nursing, Cultural and Natural Heritage, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, and Digital Marketing. Additionally, GJU has introduced higher diplomas in Taxes and Civil Engineering and a professional diploma in Cinema, in collaboration with relevant institutions.
The new Digital Marketing program at GJU addresses the growing demands of the local and global market, particularly in Germany, which ranks fifth globally in e-commerce. The program is designed to equip students with the skills needed to develop marketing strategies for Arabic, English, and German-speaking audiences, reflecting the necessity for multilingual expertise.
With over 66 million digital subscribers in Germany and e-commerce sales reaching approximately $83 billion in 2023, projected to hit $100 billion by 2030, the demand for digital marketing professionals is substantial. Spending on digital advertising in Germany is expected to reach $29 billion by 2030, highlighting extensive job opportunities in marketing, advertising, media, and design. The new Digital Marketing major at GJU aims to provide students with a multilingual specialization and significant job prospects in the German and international markets
