EDU-SYRIA, funded by the EU and managed by the German Jordanian University (GJU), successfully concluded the third High School Summer Program (HSSP) on 25th July at the GJU. The closing ceremony was held at the university and was attended by H.E. Mr. Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, the EU Ambassador to Jordan, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, the President of the GJU, Ms. Wieke Waterschoot representative of the EU Delegation to Jordan, and Prof. Dhiah Abou-Tair, the EDU-SYRIA Project Manager, and about 40 male and female students. The purpose of this program is to provide an interactive and dynamic experience for Syrian refugee children aged 16 to 17 from the Zaatari camp, through a wide range of engaging activities that promote creativity, learning, social interaction, and preparation for higher education.

The HSSP featured a variety of activities, including scientific, cultural, and recreational events, as well as competitions and challenges. On the conclusion day hosted by the GJU, Mind Lab organized educational activities that included fun chemistry experiments, challenges, competitions, and Telematch games. The interactive sessions saw active participation from the students, who posed numerous questions to Ms. Waterschoot expressing their hopes and future aspirations.

The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of the EU Ambassador who encouraged the students to overcome challenges so they could complete their studies and succeed in their lives, where certificates were distributed to the participating students, and each student was awarded a laptop, recognizing their efforts throughout the club period and encouraging them to complete their studies.

It is worth mentioning that the program occurred from July 14-25, 2024, at Zarqa University (ZU), Luminus Technical University College (LTUC), Adventure and Challenge Forest Camp, and Mind Lab – King Hussein Business Park. On the first day, the event started at ZU. It was a thrilling experience for the students as they learned about the intricacies of cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI). On the second day, the students had an amazing tour which gave them a unique perspective on the worldwide diploma programs that LTUC offers. Still, the thrill didn’t end there! Our students got the chance to visit the Adventure and Challenge Forest Camp on the third day. This camp is well-known for providing creative team-building activities for groups. Our students were to take on challenges and make the most of their abilities in an environment of quiet beauty and wonderful surroundings. Over the other three days, the students visited the Mind Lab in which interactive classes full of innovative scientific and creative projects and experiments were provided.

Through such initiatives, EDU-SYRIA Scholarship Program aims to support refugee students and provide educational opportunities that enhance their potential and help them achieve their academic and professional ambitions in the future.

Lastly, EDU-SYRIA would like to thank all of the participants, parents, volunteers, and anybody else who contributed to making this program a success.
