Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Majdi Mohammad Alharasis visited the German Jordanian University (GJU) today, Tuesday, where he was welcomed by the University President, Prof. Ala'aldeen Al-Halhouli.
Both sides discussed the continuation of cooperation between the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army and GJU, as well as ways to strengthen it across academic, scientific, and training fields, to benefit from specialized expertise and capabilities.
In the presence of several senior JAF officers and members of the university's academic and administrative staff, the army chief was briefed on the university's establishment and academic journey, its main programs and specializations, and its achievements in education, scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The briefing also highlighted the university's role in preparing and qualifying students amid rapid developments in technology, science, and the research system.
Maj. Gen. Alharasis also inaugurated the Artificial Intelligence Computing and Operations System (AICOR), launched by GJU in partnership with the Special Communications Commission. The system aims to strengthen the university’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, scientific research, and practical applications, while connecting academic and research expertise with practical needs and challenges.
Attendees were briefed on the system’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analysis, and generative AI, as well as its role in enabling students and researchers to work on real-world use cases and turn them into prototypes and practical solutions.
Maj. Gen. Alharasis also toured the Technology, Research and Innovation Complex, a number of specialised scientific laboratories, and the university’s academic facilities, where he reviewed the learning environment, the equipment and resources available to students, and the facilities provided by the university to support the educational and research process.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the Jordan Armed Forces and academic and scientific institutions, describing them as a key pillar in developing national expertise and providing the Armed Forces with modern knowledge and skills. He noted that such cooperation keeps pace with the requirements of development and modernization in military, technological, and scientific fields. He also highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise and making use of scientific research outcomes to improve performance, thereby enhancing cooperation between military and academic institutions in areas of mutual scientific and technical interest.
For his part, GJU President affirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Jordan Armed Forces and harnessing its academic, research, and training expertise and capabilities in support of national institutions. He also highlighted the importance of partnerships between higher education institutions and national organizations in developing expertise and supporting the country’s development and modernization efforts.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff commended the academic and scientific standard achieved by the university, as well as the efforts and achievements of its faculty members and students in education, research, and innovation. He stressed the importance of continuing to build effective institutional partnerships that contribute to developing national capabilities and strengthening the Kingdom’s knowledge and innovation ecosystem.
