Prof. Mohammad Hamed
Mohammad M. Hamed is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the German Jordanian University (GJU). He previously held academic positions as the President of Isra University, Professor at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), and a visiting Professor at Lakehead University. He received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Middlesex University, UK, his Masters in transportation engineering from Northwestern University, USA, and his Ph.D. in transportation engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. At GJU, he served as the Director of the Vision Rehabilitation Center (VRC) and the Road Safety Excellence Center (RSCE). He served as a chair for a number of committees at GJU. He has a solid academic track record with over 30 years experience in journal publishing – editor, member of editorial boards, reviewer and author in prestigious international journals with high impact factor. He has been appointed as reviewer for very prestigious US and international journals. His research interests are in the application of statistical and econometric methods to study transportation safety, transportation economics, travel behavior, demand for renewable energy, environmental management and a wide range of engineering-related problems. He was appointed as a member of the prestigious Standing Committee on Statistical Methods (AED60)/Transportation Research Board. He was appointed as the Chair of the Best Paper Award for the AED60 TRB Committee. He was the recipient of the 2022 (and Inaugural) Best Reviewer Award given by the AED60 Standing Committee on Statistical Methods of the TRB of the National Academies. Also, he was selected by the Journal of Urban Planning and Development as an ASCE 201 and 2020 Outstanding Reviewer.
He has sound and proven administrative, managerial leadership and technical skills. He served as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan (2013 to 2015). He also served as the Director General of the Public Transport Regulatory Commission (PTRC), and the Chief Commissioner and CEO of Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC). He has solid and proven experience in dealing with international funding agencies and stakeholders for example, WB, EIB, EBRD, the UN, diplomatic community, governments, and national institutions.
