Dr. Sofyan M. A. Hayajneh

Dr. Sofyan M. A. Hayajneh is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical /Computer Engineering Department, School of Computing at the German Jordanian University (GJU), Jordan. He is an interdisciplinary academic and researcher whose expertise spans Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Business Analytics.

Dr. Hayajneh holds a PhD in Computer Engineering and Data Science from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom, awarded in 2011. His doctoral research focused on big data algorithms, analysis and visualization, computer vision, image processing, and the development of automated approaches for the 3D visualization and modelling of satellite images. He obtained his MSc/MEng in Electrical Engineering (Communications Engineering) from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in 2007, graduating with an excellent average, and his BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering (Communications Engineering) from JUST in 2005, graduating with a very good average.

Dr. Hayajneh has extensive academic and higher-education experience, having served in academic, administrative, and leadership positions at several Jordanian universities. His previous positions include Associate Professor of Computer Engineering and Data Science at the Arab Open University, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Isra University, and Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Isra University. He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Computer Studies, Head of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Unit, and Assistant Director for Academic Affairs at the Arab Open University.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Hayajneh has contributed extensively to academic accreditation, quality assurance, program development, curriculum design, strategic planning, and higher education development. He has participated in and chaired committees concerned with the development and accreditation of academic standards, knowledge fields, programs, and courses in engineering, computer science, data science, and business analytics. He has also contributed to national competency and competitive examination committees and to initiatives related to capacity building and digital transformation.

His research interests are multidisciplinary and include Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Image Processing, Big Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, and intelligent decision-support applications. His research has resulted in publications and conference contributions in areas including computer vision, solar imaging, cloud computing, IoT, software engineering, security, and data-driven applications. He has also been involved in international research activities at the University of Bradford, particularly in the field of space weather and solar imaging.
Dr. Hayajneh has extensive teaching and training experience across undergraduate and postgraduate education. His teaching areas include Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Business Analytics, Data Mining, Data Visualization, Database Management, Statistics, Programming, Algorithms, and Research Methodology. He has trained students and professionals in technologies and analytical tools including Python, MATLAB, SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, and RapidMiner.

He is a Certified Innovation Management professional (GIMI) and has delivered numerous professional training programs, workshops, keynote presentations, and public awareness activities covering emerging technologies, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, future skills, data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital transformation. His professional activities also include curriculum and course development in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Python programming, Data Science, Data Visualization, Business Analytics, and Research Methodology.
In recognition of his academic contribution, Dr. Hayajneh received an Excellence in Teaching Award from Arab Open University in 2023. He is also affiliated with professional organizations including IEEE, IEEE Communications Society, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and the Jordan Engineers Association.
Dr. Hayajneh's academic and professional interests are guided by a strong commitment to innovation, interdisciplinary education, evidence-based decision-making, emerging technologies, and the development of future-ready skills.
