Minister of Labor Dr. Khaled Al-Bakkar affirmed that the types of graduates demanded by the labor market are those produced by the German Jordanian University, which take into account the skills and needs required by the labor market. These programs rely on building a theoretical knowledge base for students and linking it with the practical skills needed in both the local and global labor markets.
During the launch of the “Mobility for Work Week: International Career Gateway,” organized by the Mobility for Work Center at the German Jordanian University in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Jordanian Ministry of Labor, under the Migration and Development Centers project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, he pointed out that one of the main challenges in today’s labor market is the shift to different forms of flexible work—especially in artificial intelligence, data processing, information technology, and cybersecurity. He noted that failure to adapt to these changes would leave us isolated from global market requirements.
Al-Bakkar added that another challenge facing the global labor market is that countries with high economic growth often have low population growth. If these countries do not bridge connections with countries that have high population growth and skilled labor, distortions in the global labor market may occur.
He highlighted that the cross-governmental economic modernization vision focuses on two levers: first, economic growth, and second, providing job opportunities for youth targeted over the next ten years. This requires creating local employment opportunities while marketing qualified Jordanian skills regionally and globally.
He also commended the cooperation of the German government in attracting skilled and trained Jordanian labor to the German labor market.
For his part, the President of the German Jordanian University, Prof. Dr. Alaa’ Al-Halhouli, emphasized that this program aligns with the university’s mission to prepare a generation capable of competing in international markets. He stated that after twenty years of achievement, the university focuses on the motto “Strength of Partnerships” and is moving toward internationalization, continuously developing its educational system to serve as an academic model that supports students in reaching global employment opportunities.
He also praised the importance of strengthening the university’s partnerships with German institutions to provide diverse opportunities for Jordanian youth, similar to graduates of the German Jordanian University, who possess unique skills and qualifications enabling them to compete globally.
Project Director Dr. Ziad Abu El-Rub explained that the event serves as a bridge for professional and cultural networking, allowing Jordanian youth to learn about international labor market requirements and acquire the skills needed to integrate into global work environments through spaces for learning, networking, and experience sharing.
He noted that, as part of the Career Weeks initiative, more than 300 applicants will undergo a comprehensive evaluation, from which 80 candidates will be selected to join a specialized training program aimed at achieving a globally recognized level of professional readiness. This will include assessments combining technical knowledge, soft skills, and adaptability to multicultural environments.
Ruba Al-Hajj Hassan, Strategic Partnerships and Cooperation Advisor at the Jordanian-German Center for Facilitating Labor Mobility, stated that the center was established to provide advisory and awareness services regarding legal and safe migration in accordance with international laws, protecting workers’ rights, and reducing the consequences of illegal migration.
The “Mobility for Work Week” aims to enhance the employment opportunities of qualified Jordanians in international markets through career guidance, assessment, and training in industrial engineering and information technology.
The two-day event includes interactive workshops, career counseling sessions, showcases of Jordanian success stories, and opportunities for networking with experts and employers.
