Jordanian Universities Network Organizes Smart Education Summit to Promote University Research and Innovation
The Jordanian Universities Network (JUNet) organized today, at the Grand Hyatt Amman Hotel and in collaboration with Huawei and the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN), the Smart Education Summit 2025. The event saw wide participation from Jordanian universities, ICT experts, as well as regional and international partners, aiming to showcase the latest developments in smart and digital education, and AI-enhanced learning.
In his opening speech, Prof. Ala'aldeen Al-Halhouli, Chairman of the JUNet Board of Directors, emphasized that the summit represents a strategic milestone in envisioning the future of higher education and scientific research in Jordan and the region. He praised Huawei and ASREN for their support in developing digital infrastructure and expanding the horizons of academic collaboration.
He clarified that JUNet is not merely a high-speed digital network but a bridge connecting minds, ideas, and opportunities. It enables Jordanian universities to link with global scientific communities, international research projects, and advanced cloud platforms that accelerate innovation and scientific discovery.
He added: "Smart education relies on robust infrastructure, effective partnerships, and sound governance. We are committed to enhancing secure connectivity, developing research infrastructure, upgrading cybersecurity, and providing intelligent digital platforms that support sustainable growth."
Prof. Al-Halhouli also reaffirmed King Abdullah II’s vision that Jordan’s progress is measured by its ability to harness technology wisely and confidently, underlining JUNet’s commitment to supporting Jordanian universities and enhancing their competitiveness.
For his part, Yang Ming, G.M. of Huawei Jordan, noted that the summit, held under the theme “Accelerating the Digital Journey of Education,” serves as a strategic platform to fast-track digital transformation. He highlighted that education now lies at the heart of the global shift toward a digital economy, expected to drive more than one-third of the world economy by 2030.
He explained that generative AI has transformed the concept of learning, where knowledge is no longer measured by memorization but by the ability to analyze, innovate, and solve problems. He stressed the importance of building a digital education ecosystem based on ICT technologies.
He also emphasized Huawei’s vision: “Talent for Intelligence, Intelligence for Talent,” aimed at preparing human capacities for a fast-paced digital world and providing the necessary supporting technologies. Over the past decade, Huawei has supported more than 7,800 educational institutions in over 120 countries, partnered with more than 2,700 universities, and contributed to training over one million students.
Meanwhile, Dr. Youssef Al-Tarman, General Manager of ASREN, provided an overview of the organization’s role, explaining that it is a union of national research and education networks in the Arab region and strategic partners. ASREN aims to implement, manage, and sustain advanced digital infrastructures dedicated to research and education communities, and to enhance scientific research and academic collaboration among member countries by offering high-level electronic services.
The summit featured specialized sessions covering digital transformation in universities, AI applications and data-enhanced learning, network and cloud computing strategies, and the role of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) in supporting scientific research, alongside showcasing successful experiences from Jordanian universities in adopting digital education technologies.
