The Vision Rehabilitation Center (VRC) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) hosted a delegation of second year students from the Occupational Therapy Department at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Jordan, as part of an educational visit aimed at bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application in the courses "Assessment in Occupational Therapy" and "Techniques in Occupational Therapy". The visit also aimed to benefit from the advanced resources provided by the center in the fields of assessment and visual rehabilitation.
This visit took place due to the center’s high level of preparedness, including integrated visual assessment and intervention equipment, providing students with a hands-on training environment that keeps pace with developments in this field.
The visit included practical lectures on the mechanisms for assessing visual functions, such as near and distance visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, visual fields, and eye muscle movements. Additionally, there was a presentation on visual aids used to enhance vision for individuals with low vision, such as magnifying glasses, handheld and electronic magnifiers, and telescopes of various types.
The lectures were presented by Mrs. Yosur Qutaishat and Mrs. Salma Abdeljaber from the University of Jordan, along with Mr. Sami Shubleeq from VRC at GJU, in the presence of 64 male and female students specializing in occupational therapy.
At the end of the visit, the lecturers emphasized the importance of enhancing academic cooperation between the two institutions, with a vision to organize future awareness workshops focused on visual impairments and rehabilitation techniques.
This visit was a valuable opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings and develop their professional skills in the field of visual occupational therapy, preparing them to effectively engage in the workforce.
