The Center for E-Learning and Academic Performance Improvement (CeLAPI) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), in collaboration with the German Jordanian Discourse Series, successfully hosted an online workshop titled "Introduction to Micro-Credentials" on March 10, 2025. The event introduced faculty members, administrators, and education professionals to the rapidly evolving world of micro and digital credentials, emphasizing their role in higher education and industry-driven learning.
The workshop commenced with a welcoming speech by Prof. Dhiah el Diehn Abou-Tair, who highlighted the German Jordanian Discourse Series as a key platform for fostering academic exchange and collaboration between Germany and Jordan.
Following Prof. Abou-Tair remarks, Dr. Ziad Abu El-Rub, Director of CeLAPI, emphasized GJU’s strong interest in micro-credentials as a cornerstone of modern education. He highlighted key initiatives, including the Erasmus+ FRAME project application, which aims to establish a structured micro-credential system, along with ongoing efforts in digital learning, faculty training, and industry collaboration. Dr. Abu El-Rub reaffirmed that micro-credentials will play a vital role in the future of education, encouraging further collaboration with strategic German partners in this field.
The workshop was led by Stuart Martin, Founder of George Angus Consulting, an expert in vocational education and credentialing. He provided an in-depth exploration of micro-credentials, covering their definitions, purpose, accreditation, and recognition, as well as the technologies supporting them and challenges in higher education. The interactive session engaged participants through online polls and word clouds, fostering discussions on how GJU can develop and integrate micro-credentials into its academic framework. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, where attendees explored potential applications of micro-credentials at GJU and beyond.
